About the centre

Early Learning in the Heart of the Lanyon Valley

Shared Beginnings Conder is a vibrant early learning centre and preschool where children are encouraged to explore, discover and grow in an environment filled with possibility. Located in Canberra’s beautiful Lanyon Valley, our centre is surrounded by the natural charm of Conder, a family-friendly suburb known for its open spaces, mountain outlooks, local amenities and strong community feel. Conder forms part of the Tuggeranong region, which is recognised as a popular area for families, with playgrounds, parks, libraries and family activities nearby.

Our centre has been thoughtfully designed to give children room to move, imagine, connect and learn. With multiple outdoor learning spaces and exciting indoor environments, children have opportunities every day to engage in play-based learning that supports confidence, curiosity and independence.

A Centre Designed for Adventure, Connection and Discovery

At Shared Beginnings Conder, our learning environments are a true strength of the centre. Children can move between engaging indoor spaces and outdoor areas that invite active play, imaginative exploration and meaningful social interaction.

Our outdoor spaces support children to run, climb, investigate, build friendships and connect with the natural world. These areas are not just playgrounds - they are learning environments where children develop coordination, resilience, problem-solving skills and confidence.

Inside, our rooms are warm, welcoming and intentionally set up to spark curiosity. Children are encouraged to explore books, creative arts, construction, sensory play, dramatic play, music, movement and early literacy and numeracy experiences in ways that feel natural, joyful and engaging.

The Shared Foundations Approach

Our centre follows the Shared Foundations approach — our unique pedagogy framework that supports children to build strong foundations for lifelong learning.

Through Shared Foundations, our educators focus on:

Belonging
helping every child feel safe, known, included and valued.
Play-based learning
recognising that children learn best through hands-on exploration, imagination and meaningful play.
Relationships
building strong connections between children, families and educators.
Holistic development
supporting children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive and communication skills.
Confidence and independence
encouraging children to try new things, make choices, solve problems and develop a strong sense of self.

At Conder, this approach is brought to life through exciting learning environments, thoughtful routines, responsive teaching and strong family partnerships.

Inspired by the Local Community

Conder is a wonderful location for early childhood education because it offers the balance of a peaceful suburban community with access to nature, family services, schools and local conveniences. The suburb sits within the Lanyon Valley and is close to nature reserves, parks, playgrounds and wider Tuggeranong family amenities.

This local environment helps shape the way we teach. At Shared Beginnings Conder, we value children’s connection to place. We encourage them to notice the world around them, ask questions, explore their community and build a sense of belonging in the area they live and learn.

Early Childhood Education and Care

Learning That Feels Meaningful

Every day at Shared Beginnings Conder is designed to support children’s growth in ways that feel natural and purposeful. Our educators observe children closely, listen to their interests and extend their learning through intentional teaching, open-ended resources and rich play experiences.

A child’s interest in insects may become a nature investigation. A group building towers may explore balance, measurement and teamwork. A story shared at group time may lead to dramatic play, art, language development and early writing.

This is what makes our program meaningful - children are not simply completing activities; they are building knowledge, confidence and lifelong skills through experiences that matter to them.

Supporting Every Child’s Journey

We understand that every child is unique. Some children are bold and adventurous, while others need time, reassurance and gentle encouragement. Our educators take the time to know each child as an individual and create learning experiences that support their personality, strengths, culture, interests and stage of development.

Families are an important part of this process. We value open communication and strong partnerships, ensuring families feel informed, included and connected to their child’s learning journey.
